Ayurvedic Medicine &
Authentic Midwifery
For Maiden, Mother & Matriarch
“Women have always been healers. Cultural myths from around the world describe a time when only women knew the secrets of life and death, and therefore they alone could practice the magical art of healing”
~Jeanne Achterberg
Woman As Healer
What is an Authentic Midwife?
For as long as history will allow us to see, women have always been the village healer, wise woman, midwife, death attendant, herbalist and confidant. The local wise woman, even in western history, traveled from home to home, village to village, witnessing births, tending to women’s postpartum needs, providing holistic abortions, caring for elders and cultivating healing herbs and tinctures for the sick.
Historically barred from books and lectures, we learned the wise woman traditions from each other, passing knowledge from neighbor to neighbor and mother to daughter.
This is the authentic midwife. She is unlicensed, unregulated, ungoverned and untamed, answering to no one but the families she works for.
She guides the maidens towards their power, walks hand in hand with the mother and deeply respects the matriarch.
She is the village wise woman and the mother of medicine.
This is Medicine Mother Midwifery.
